Description

These chamomile flowers are grown right here on the Nimbin Apothecary farm, harvested by hand and dried carefully to preserve the plant's full aroma, colour and therapeutic potency. When you buy chamomile from us, you are getting something most suppliers cannot offer: flowers grown, picked and dried by the same qualified herbalists who dispense them.

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is one of the most widely used and trusted herbs in Western herbal medicine. It has been valued for centuries for its gentle calming action on both the nervous system and the digestive tract. It is safe for adults and children alike, making it one of the most versatile herbs to have at home.

Available in 50g and 100g bags.

Traditionally Used For

  • Calming the nervous system and relieving anxiety
  • Supporting restful sleep and easing insomnia
  • Soothing the digestive tract after meals
  • Settling upset stomachs in both adults and children
  • As a gentle eye wash for tired or irritated eyes
  • Added to baths for relaxation and skin soothing

How to Use

As a tea: Place 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers in a cup, pour boiling water over, cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain and drink. For sleep support, drink 30 minutes before bed. For digestion, drink after meals. Take up to three times daily.

As an eye wash: Brew a strong chamomile tea, allow to cool completely, then use as a gentle wash for tired or irritated eyes using a clean cotton pad.

In the bath: Add a handful of chamomile flowers to a warm bath for a soothing, relaxing soak.

Chamomile pairs beautifully with other calming herbs. Try combining with lavender flowers and lemon balm for a calming evening blend, or with passionflower for deeper sleep support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chamomile good for sleep? Yes. Chamomile is one of the most well-known herbs for sleep support. It contains apigenin, a compound that binds to receptors in the brain that promote relaxation and sleepiness. Drinking chamomile tea 30 minutes before bed is a time-tested approach to improving sleep quality. For additional sleep support, see our Sleep and Nervous System Support collection.

Can children drink chamomile tea? Yes. Chamomile is one of the gentlest herbs available and is widely used for children. It is traditionally given to soothe upset stomachs, ease teething discomfort and help children settle at bedtime. Use a weaker brew (half a teaspoon per cup) for young children.

What is the difference between your chamomile and supermarket chamomile tea? Our chamomile is whole dried flowers grown on our Nimbin farm, harvested at peak potency. Supermarket tea bags typically contain chamomile dust and fannings from commercially mass-processed flowers, which are significantly less potent. The difference in aroma and colour is immediately noticeable.

Is chamomile safe during pregnancy? Chamomile tea in moderate amounts is generally considered safe during pregnancy and is commonly used for digestive comfort. However, consult your healthcare practitioner if you have concerns.
